Vent piping is very sensitive part of plumbing system and is very important to keep drains flowing smoothly in a building/home. Do you know what purpose the vent pipe actually serves? Read on and we will explain how and where vent pipe is traditionally used ?
WHY PLUMBING AIR VENTS ARE IMPORTANT ?
The plumbing vent system is part of the building plumbing system and serves two basic functions:
- Allow building drains to flow freely: Vent pipes allows air into the drain system and avoids the vacuum in the drain pipes. Thus helps the system to flow water through drainage pipes each time a toilet is flushed or a sink is drained.
- Allow sewer gases to be vented safely outdoors : Plumbing vents also prevents sewer gases to flow back up into the building drain piping from public sewer or private septic system. Because sewer gases are included in building waste flowing through piping, the plumbing vent system needs to carry these gases outside, usually above the building roof. Using these pipes these gases are disposed-of safely without leaving unpleasant or possibly dangerous smells and gases inside the building. from entering the home and allow wastewater gas and odor to escape.
